Access Control
A security mechanism regulating who or what can enter specific facility areas. RTLS-integrated systems automatically grant or deny access based on credentials and real-time location. Enables features like anti-passback, time-based restrictions, and complete audit trails. Enhances both security and safety compliance.
System functionality that restricts personnel or equipment access to designated zones based on real-time location data. In industrial RTLS, access control triggers automated responses when unauthorized tags attempt to enter restricted areas - including visual/audible alarms, physical barrier activation (automated doors, gates), or administrative notifications. Systems typically define multiple access privilege levels with configurable time-based rules. Advanced implementations integrate with existing physical access control systems (PACS) and can enforce complex policies such as required PPE verification, escort requirements, or maximum occupancy limits. Response time is critical - industrial systems typically detect unauthorized access within 0.5-2 seconds with virtual geofences.
